The "Other" Meaning

This project was one of a series of projects for the quarter. Each project challenges the students to internalize the idea and release it onto paper. For this project, we went over what idioms are and why they are used.

Once we got though the meaning of idioms and everyone was on the same page, there were a few spanish speakers that shared some they use at home. Ser pan comido (A piece of cake), Estar como una cabra (you're being crazy), Levantado afuera (Born in a barn).

This project was a hit! They had to choose from a list of idioms I supplied. Then they had to create a color composition according to a literal interpretation (exactly what it says), hence, "The Other Meaning."

I had a few guidelines they needed to adhere to, but they were free to complete the assignment with their own creative license.

Must Haves:

  • Always Be creative!

  • Start with pencil (very light) then move to markers or colored pencil

  • Fill the page (always use your space)

  • Final piece must be in full color

  • **No pencil should be seen on your final piece**
