Pointillism Project
This project was completed by my 8th and 9th graders. I introduced Georges Seurat as our project inspiration. The students were excited they were going to paint and a subject of their choosing.
We talked about his work and how he painted using small distinct dots of colors, laying them directly on the canvas, without mixing the paint. This way when you stand a distance away, the dots seem to blend in into the color was wanting.
For this project, the students were able to choose their subject. Some chose images from magazines, others chose something they were interested in (pokemon). We used acrylic paint on cardboard using q-tips as our dotters.
I had a few guidelines they needed to adhere to, but they were free to complete the assignment with their own creative license.
Must Haves:
Start out by sketching your subject on the cardboard
Choose your colors, squeeze a little bit of each color that you think you will need
Use cotton swabs to paint in your sketch. Don’t mix the colors!
Fill the page (always use your space)
**No pencil should be seen on your final piece**
